We have investigated the depletion kinetics of carbidic carbon on Ni(111) exposed to high pressure (100 mbar) molecular hydrogen in the temperature range 348-373 K by means of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The experimental kinetics could be fitted with a simple exponential function. The activation energy and the preexponential factor resulted to be 20.8 +/- 1.4 kcal/mol and 1.1 x 10(10.0 +/- 0.8) s-1, respectively. Results obtained by a combined technique of numerical simulation and data fitting lead to a reaction picture dominated by one single rate-determining hydrogenation step.

Abstract
We have investigated the depletion kinetics of carbidic carbon on Ni(111) exposed to high pressure (100 mbar) molecular hydrogen in the temperature range 348-373 K by means of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The experimental kinetics could be fitted with a simple exponential function. The activation energy and the preexponential factor resulted to be 20.8 +/- 1.4 kcal/mol and 1.1 x 10(10.0 +/- 0.8) s-1, respectively. Results obtained by a combined technique of numerical simulation and data fitting lead to a reaction picture dominated by one single rate-determining hydrogenation step.File in questo prodotto:
