AbstractMatera, European Capital of Culture 2019: symbol of reuse, resilience and sustainable hospitality. -Matera 2019 must be an opportunity to rediscover the beauty of the spaces we inhabit daily and above allit must represent not only an opportunity to wonder about the relationship between man and theenvironment, but also a different way of representing this relationship, by re-evaluating traditional values.Matera is a resilient city: able to recover from the terrible shock of the mid-twentieth century that led thecity to be defined as a “national shame”, today it has become one of the assets most renowned in theworld, a model of sustainability and resilience for Europe and for the whole world. A symbol ofsustainable hospitality is the Hotel Sextantio – Grotte della Civita which is composed by 18 impeccablerooms in the oldest part of the ancient cave dwellings of Matera (Sasso Barisano).
