Metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Bagni unit experienced an older metamorphism, probably of Hercynian age, and localized effects of Alpine age. Metavolcanic rocks ranging in composition mainly from dacite to rhyodacite, display Zr, Ti, Nb and Y relationships typical of calc-alkaline orogenic suites. If the age of the original sequence is Hercynian, the metavolcanics must relate to syn-sedimentary magmatic activity during the early stages of the orogenesis.
