From our experience in the e-learning field (De Pietro, 2002), we can say that a great part of developers and researchers’ efforts is focused on building web-based information systems (Fraternali, 1999) for guaranteeing asymmetric hypermedia communication. According to this point of view, e-learning systems can be considered a particular subset of a bigger category of systems created for storing, managing, and producing data and contents.
