"E. P. Hamp’s Sound Archive (1952): its consistency and edition." In 1952 Eric Pratt Hamp was at Vaccarizzo Albanese working on his PhD dissertation about the sound system of that dialect. He had then the possibility to take with him a tape-recorder and to collect 15 hours of folk songs, tales, free conversations, word lists, and with them the everyday life’s sounds, noises and socio-cultural materials regarding people, village, work, food etc. This Sound Archive is now preserved at the University of Chicago with its original reels, while a copy of it, in 24 CDs, has been purchased by the Comune of Vaccarizzo Albanese, and is now at disposal of the Chair of Albanian Language and Literature of the University of Calabria (Cosenza, Italy). The Archive is going to be organised, catalogued, studied and published. Here are given a short history of Arbëreshë recordings, from 1907 up to now, with a detailed list (by subject, speaker etc.) of the contents of the 15-hour recordings.
