The handbook deals with the use of carabid beetles as biological indicators for nature conservation and landscape planning. It starts with the analysis of life traits and bionomy of this beetle family, goes on on methods for the census of carabid communities, the organization of knowledge in evaluation for conservation, mapping and index calculation. A chapter is devoted to biogeography of these beetles, with a checklist of the 1300 italian taxa. A final chapter gives the taxonomic keys for the identification at genus level.
