The purpose of this project is to show how it can be possible to analyze the stress on a masonry vault through new graphic technologies (using 3D models) that give an immediate comprehension of the stressed and non-stressed zones. This analysis was developed on a vault in the old town centre of Mongiana (VV). The CAD software used for the construction of the tridimensional models was Rhinoceros®. This graphic representation method was mapped on a barrel vault, therefore with a constant bend radius, but it can be easily implemented on any type of vault. The method is based on a 3D representation of the stress starting from a 2D analysis of different sections, that are part of the vault, and joining them together through a linear interpolation of the points standing at different depths.

Abstract
The purpose of this project is to show how it can be possible to analyze the stress on a masonry vault through new graphic technologies (using 3D models) that give an immediate comprehension of the stressed and non-stressed zones. This analysis was developed on a vault in the old town centre of Mongiana (VV). The CAD software used for the construction of the tridimensional models was Rhinoceros®. This graphic representation method was mapped on a barrel vault, therefore with a constant bend radius, but it can be easily implemented on any type of vault. The method is based on a 3D representation of the stress starting from a 2D analysis of different sections, that are part of the vault, and joining them together through a linear interpolation of the points standing at different depths.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
