Saussure is almost universally acknowledged as the champion of the idea of language as abstract form, which has to be viewed regardless of all concrete (i.e. contextual, communicational, cultural) aspects. Nevertheless, it is possible to see things in a different perspective. Namely, a closer look to the issue of semiology, the stress on the notions of habitude and sentiment (used by Saussure in CGL as in other writings), and the analysis of what he calls force d’intercourse can help us to see Saussure’s interest for the very life of people (customs and traditions, religion, praxis, etc.), which is also witnessed by an unscientific text from the Harvard saussurean folder.

Abstract
Saussure is almost universally acknowledged as the champion of the idea of language as abstract form, which has to be viewed regardless of all concrete (i.e. contextual, communicational, cultural) aspects. Nevertheless, it is possible to see things in a different perspective. Namely, a closer look to the issue of semiology, the stress on the notions of habitude and sentiment (used by Saussure in CGL as in other writings), and the analysis of what he calls force d’intercourse can help us to see Saussure’s interest for the very life of people (customs and traditions, religion, praxis, etc.), which is also witnessed by an unscientific text from the Harvard saussurean folder.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
