The phytobenthos of Cirella island, studied in the month of October, appears composed by a low number of species (26) with a low percentage of Mediterranean endemisms. Up to a depth of 2 m, Cystoseira mediterranea and Laurencia obtusa are the dominat species, while up to a depth of 4 m there ia a belt of Corallina elongata. Along the darker slopèes of the island it is possible to observe a precoralligene type of biocenosis.
