The paper summarizes the authors' experience in the conception and use of microcomputer-based models in urban hydrology, a field in which both experimental and modelist's skills are involved. The authors dealt with experimental data from an urban basin dating from 1979, and their experience in the collection and use of hydrological information gave rise to the conception of a model - UCSTORM - for the design of new urban storm drainage systems and the analysis of existing ones. The model consists of a package of hydrologic and hydraulic procedures commonly used in the field of urban hydrology. An optimization routine allows the choice of the best parameters values for the simulation procedure. The model has been calibrated and verified for 3 catchments and the results are discussed below. Abstract
