The article tries to investigate the role of the otium in the elegiac poetry by Tibullus. To do so, it has referred to the topic of the choice of life and to the practices of literary patronage in the Roman world of the Augustan age, reaching the conclusion that it is probably in the configuration of a new role for the poet in the Augustan age that the meanings of the relationship between otium and literary production should be sought.
