The fatigue behavior of a nickel-titanium (NiTi) based pseudoelastic alloy was studied in this work. The digital image correlation (DIC) and the infrared thermography (IR) techniques were used to evaluate both the mechanical and thermal aspects related to the stress-induced phase transformation mechanisms. Results obtained from full field measurements provided very interesting information on functional damage, i.e. the loss in pseudoelastic capabilities, as well as on structural damage, i.e. number of cycles to failure vs strain.

Abstract
The fatigue behavior of a nickel-titanium (NiTi) based pseudoelastic alloy was studied in this work. The digital image correlation (DIC) and the infrared thermography (IR) techniques were used to evaluate both the mechanical and thermal aspects related to the stress-induced phase transformation mechanisms. Results obtained from full field measurements provided very interesting information on functional damage, i.e. the loss in pseudoelastic capabilities, as well as on structural damage, i.e. number of cycles to failure vs strain.File in questo prodotto:
