Abstract

In the present paper, the critical distance method by Taylor and the multiaxialcritical plane‐based criterion by Carpinteri et al are combined together to estimatethe fatigue life of notched structural components. More precisely, the firstmethod is used to compute the input data for the second one, in terms of normaland shear stresses over a line with a characteristic length. The fatigueexperimental data herein analysed are related to V‐notched specimens madeof titanium grade 5 alloy.
