Ortega y la traducción

This paper is divided into three parts. The first one deals with the polyvalence which characterizes translation concept, with its terminology and with its selective osmotic capacity. The second one focuses on Miseria y esplendor de la traducción by Ortega, on its contradictions, on its debts toward Hermeneutics but also on its anticipations, on one side, of modern translation studies and, on the other, of Coşeriu’s conception of language change. Referring to Ordoñez work, this part analyses as well some elements of the reception of Ortega’s idea of translation in authors such as Santoyo, Montezanti, Vega, García Yebra, etc. The third and final part aims at showing an other face of Ortega, “the Ortega translator”, and it focuses on lexicological analysis of some lexical neologisms, such as vivencia and protención, and semantic neologisms, such as mostrenco, absorción, simpatía, cuidado, the archaism cura and the fraseologism arrojar en la vida.
