The Old English term āglǣca has been studied from various perspectives, considering its plurality of referents as well as its relative etymological obscurity. Starting from the hypothesis proposed by Huffines concerning the occurrences of the word in Beowulf, this note aims to evaluate whether āglǣca could be ascribed to the vocabulary of magic, considering especially its peculiar use in the poem Andreas.
