The aim of this paper is to analyse the ‘existential crisis’ that European Union (EU) has lived in the last decade. We describe three research proposals to counter economic nationalism and political populism. The first proposal consists of a ‘splitting’ of the EU. The second proposal suggests the return of popular sovereignty within national borders. The third proposal contemplates guaranteed minimum income (instead of basic income) as a fundamental social right of EU citizen, implementing a form of Europeanization of the solidarity principle. Finally, the paper analyses the “European Pillar of Social Rights” related to the implementation of the social Europe. This Pillar was proclaimed during the Göteborg Social Summit (November 17, 2017) and contemplates a minimum income at national level in the EU member states.

Abstract
This Pillar was proclaimed during the Göteborg Social Summit (November 17, 2017) and contemplates a minimum income at national level in the EU member states.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
