This article proposes an analysis of some key concepts of the European lexicon, through a historical and philosophical-political reconstruction. It looks in particular at Carl Schmitt's reflections and links the analysis of the German philosopher with the birth of a European and Eurocentric order. The occupation of overseas lands launched the long process of European colonization, leading to the spread of doctrines designed to conquest. The article analyzes the development of the notion of sovereignty, one of the major factors behind European domination. One of the paradigms used for the analysis is Michel Foucault’s idea of governmentality. On the one hand, this is a critical-analytical concept allowing a better understanding of international power relations in the contemporary age; on the other, it serves as a powerful factor for a new form of colonization.

Abstract
This article proposes an analysis of some key concepts of the European lexicon, through a historical and philosophical-political reconstruction. It looks in particular at Carl Schmitt's reflections and links the analysis of the German philosopher with the birth of a European and Eurocentric order. The occupation of overseas lands launched the long process of European colonization, leading to the spread of doctrines designed to conquest. The article analyzes the development of the notion of sovereignty, one of the major factors behind European domination. One of the paradigms used for the analysis is Michel Foucault’s idea of governmentality. On the one hand, this is a critical-analytical concept allowing a better understanding of international power relations in the contemporary age; on the other, it serves as a powerful factor for a new form of colonization.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
