The Mediterranean area is presented in this paper as a historical and political space, within wich intersubjective and social relations are analyzed, on the sea itself and on its shores. The Mediterranean becomes thus a vehicle for discovering, sharing and coailizing cultures, ideas and space. In this context, it is argued, confrontation of different identities produces a narrative of the self understood both individually and collectively. The novel is analyzed as one of the primary means of reproducing and disseminating identities, always socially and historically situated. The Mediterranean, therefore, is seen as a place inhabited by peoples with their own memories.

Abstract
The Mediterranean area is presented in this paper as a historical and political space, within wich intersubjective and social relations are analyzed, on the sea itself and on its shores. The Mediterranean becomes thus a vehicle for discovering, sharing and coailizing cultures, ideas and space. In this context, it is argued, confrontation of different identities produces a narrative of the self understood both individually and collectively. The novel is analyzed as one of the primary means of reproducing and disseminating identities, always socially and historically situated. The Mediterranean, therefore, is seen as a place inhabited by peoples with their own memories.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
