This essay aimsat investigating the meanings of the word γραφή within the Homeric scholia. Thesystematic study of the records is carried out in relation to the several ancientsources of Homeric exegesis. The term γραφή is found to be part of the peculiartechnical vocabulary of the scholiastic corpus and is used to indicate variant readingscharacterized by diverse sequences of characters transmitted by the manuscripttradition. The essay builds on my previous study on the meanings of theword ἀνάγνωσις within the Homeric scholia (Quad. Urb. n.s. 118 [147], 2018, pp. 119-156). Both terms can indicate a variant reading, but ἀνάγνωσις designates variantreadings characterized by prosodic features and word division, while γραφή specifiesvariant readings characterized by different sequences of letters.
