This essay aims at investigating the meanings of the word ἀνάγνωσις within the Homeric scholia. The first part is a systematic study of evidence. The term ἀνάγνωσις is found to be part of the peculiar technical vocabulary of the scholiastic corpus and it is used to indicate variant readings characterized by prosodic features, referring to punctuation or acting. The second part deals with researching the source of information reported by ancient critics about traditional pronunciation of the Homeric text.
