This paper analyses two groups of scholia to Homer in which the expression ἡ κοινή occurs. The author argues that ἡ κοινή is this cases an abridgement of the complete formula ἡ κοινὴ άνάγνωσις which in the scholia means the oral traditional interpretation of Homer's text. Ancient critics actually consider reading aloud the Homeric text as a source of information on those particular problems concernig accentuation, word division, vowel quantity and punctuation.
