The policy for Southern's Italy development in the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan

This contribute focuses on potential geographical impacts of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) in the light of the constraints, objectives and resources of the Plan. The article analyses the NRRP as a great development opportunity, especially for the Mezzogiorno regions. The Plan is presented as another “historic occasion” for narrowing the North-South divide; a symbolic turning point that should trigger a virtuous circle of growth, social cohesion and sustainability. More specifically, starting from the current structural “polycrisis” affecting the society and economy of the Italian backward regions, the attention is focused on the complex policies of implementation for achieving the expected results in the Mezzogiorno and on the central role played by the (financial, organisational and political) resources activated by the Plan.
