Based on the contributions of affect theories that propose overcoming the dualistic approach of passivity and agency, negative and cathartic affects, this paper analyses one of the least studied negative affects, disgust. In the first part, disgust is synthetically described on the basis of the studies of Kolnai, Miller, Ahmed, Ngai. Then the article focuses on María Fernanda Ampuero's two short story collections, Pelea de gallos (2018) and Sacrificios humanos (2021), which present a marked insistence on the representation of disgust. Through sensory perceptions, especially smell, the author makes disgust ostensible, challenging the reader. The intention of this paper is to approach the texts both from the point of view of representation and reception, in order to investigate the function of this affect and to find out whether disgust implies only rejection or also an antagonism, a disjunctive proposal with respect to the normativity of intimate and public spaces of contemporaneity.

Abstract
The intention of this paper is to approach the texts both from the point of view of representation and reception, in order to investigate the function of this affect and to find out whether disgust implies only rejection or also an antagonism, a disjunctive proposal with respect to the normativity of intimate and public spaces of contemporaneity.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
