The aim of this research is the analysis and the representation of Saussure’s terminology. I adopted three perspectives to investigate this subject. The first one is historical, in which I propose the analysis of Saussure’s terminology in different contexts: 1) Saussure’s terms occurring in scientific dictionaries of linguistics and semiotics; 2) different representations of Saussure’s terminology in different models as indexes and terminologies. This analysis shows many differences within what we generally call terminology in a broad sense, so that it becomes necessary to define and articulate the very notion of “Saussurean terminology”. The second point of view is theoretical and methodological. Above all, I argue that Saussurean terminology is not technically a terminology, because in Saussure’s documents (manuscripts and publications) there are many attempts to adopt some patterns of technical terms, but they never reached the status of a terminology. I collocated all attempts in mid level between word and term, because they are technical terms only in specific contexts of Saussure’s different reflection. I named these attempts terminologically semimanufactured. Whereas the representation of Saussurean terminology is different from normally representation of terminology. Third I create a model for representation itself. First, I distinguish between three different terminological areas: 1) the terms of XIX century linguistic; 2) the terms of other sciences; 3) the Saussure terminologically semi-manufactured. In the last area I make different sections for the different moments of Saussure’s reflection. This complex model allows me to display all terminological attempts made by Saussure and all terminological problems that he experienced in order to resolve a linguistic or semiotic problem.
