This article aims at contributing to the debate on the crucial role played by social media in the context of English language teaching (ELT). In particular, the purpose of this paper is to explore the implications that social media have for school practices and pedagogies, and to reflect on the opportunities offered by social networks when they are integrated into classroom practice. Though not originally envisaged for learning purposes, social media tools are progressively gaining attention because of their capacity to enhance learners’ motivation. An example is represented by the use of TikTok, the social media app for the sharing of short videos, as an effective medium for the promotion of students’ interest in the English language and the improvement of their skills, in particular vocabulary and pronunciation.

Abstract
This article aims at contributing to the debate on the crucial role played by social media in the context of English language teaching (ELT). In particular, the purpose of this paper is to explore the implications that social media have for school practices and pedagogies, and to reflect on the opportunities offered by social networks when they are integrated into classroom practice. Though not originally envisaged for learning purposes, social media tools are progressively gaining attention because of their capacity to enhance learners’ motivation. An example is represented by the use of TikTok, the social media app for the sharing of short videos, as an effective medium for the promotion of students’ interest in the English language and the improvement of their skills, in particular vocabulary and pronunciation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
