The article analyses some key aspects of the life and poetic work of Lorenzo Calogero (1910-1961), whose writing is considered, by unanimous critical judge-ment, to be constitutively enigmatic. The text argues that the act of writing was for Calogero a structuring factor with respect to his existence. If it is immediate to grasp the visionary nature, the urgency and the desperation of his verses, it seems more difficult to understand their profound coherence, his ethos aimed at an attempt - for him as inevitable as it was vain - to merge life and work.
