Dai cammini ai Geoitinerari. Il Cammino del Guiscardo

This paper aims to describe the research project and the results obtained during the Ph.D in Geography carried out at the Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici of the University of Calabria. The research project proposes the creation of a network of geo-itineraries in Calabria based on the Path of Guiscard, hypothesized through the analysis of historical sources recounting the Norman conquest of the 11th century. Structured in three main phases, the project developed the Path of Guiscard, de- signed thematic geo-itineraries, a georeferenced database (DBGeSCal), and a GIS (GIS_Cardo). The project employs innovative methodologies in digital humanities. The geo-itineraries combine historical, naturalistic, and socio-cultural aspects, con- tributing to the understanding of the region’s history, experiential tourism, and ter- ritorial promotion.
