This article deals with controversies in the natural sciences. It examines approaches to the didactic treatment of controversies with a view to preserving and promoting multilingualism in scientific discourse. This is illustrated in the field of CLIL in physics in German as a foreign language, focusing on the controversial issue of mass in special relativity. In this context, the didactic potential and challenges of artificial intelligence, in particular ChatGPT, are considered, with a specific focus on teacher training in the Italian school context.
