In feminist literature, farming and rural innovation is conceived as a process that unfolds through practices in which care and socio-ecological justice are central elements. By conceptualizing agriculture as a relational process, this perspective enables a deeper understanding of the specific experiences and practices of women engaged in farm innovation. Building on this analytical framework, we present the results of a case study on women- led innovation in the farming sector in Italy. The analysis shows that the innovations are grounded in practices of care directed toward oneself, toward others (both human and non-human), and toward the environment. Although farming remains a male-dominated sector, and patriarchal norms are still deeply rooted in many rural areas, the path toward transformative change that meaningfully addresses gender equality in farming is already underway. By claiming their space and agency, these women contribute to reshaping public discourse and, despite the challenges they face, to building a more sustainable, just, and inclusive rural future. To support this process, the final section proposes policy measures aimed at effectively supporting women-led innovation in the Italian farming sector.
