The essay is a journey through a series of themes and forms that belong to David Lynch's first feature film, Eraserhead. Starting with the use of sound and images in the film, the text highlights how, from the outset, cinema represented for Lynch the form capable of addressing a multidimensional reality. Only through the transfiguration of forms and the rejection of a mimetic representation of reality can the cinematic image traverse and render present different levels of reality. From this point of view, therefore, Eraserhead represents the first stage in the American director's relentless quest, closely linked to two fields of knowledge that he constantly evokes: Vedic philosophy and quantum physics, both of which share the recognition that perceived reality is in fact only one aspect of the real.
