T his paper is focused on the structural and ideological similarities found in a passage by Orosius (IV 1,16-18) and two accounts in Pausania’s Periegesis (I 4,4; X 23,2). Both anecdotical reports are concerned with extraordinary lightning storms that struck ‘barbarian’ armies, the Roman and Galatian ones in Orosius and Pausaniasrespectively. It is proposed that the narrative of these events could originally be deve loped within the historiography of the court of Pyrrhus.
