The article explores the state-appointed oversight of healthcare in Calabria as an emblematic case of the tensions between depoliticisation, technicisation, and processes of (re)politicisation. Drawing on qualitative analysis of documentary sources and interviews with key institutional actors, it shows how this mechanism – originally introduced to address the region’s health debt – was first conceived as a technical instrument aimed at curbing regional political power, but evolved into an arena of political reassertion. The analysis argues that it does not generates a simple replacement of politics by technical power, but rather a reconfiguration of political forms, actors, and responsibilities.

Abstract
The article explores the state-appointed oversight of healthcare in Calabria as an emblematic case of the tensions between depoliticisation, technicisation, and processes of (re)politicisation. Drawing on qualitative analysis of documentary sources and interviews with key institutional actors, it shows how this mechanism – originally introduced to address the region’s health debt – was first conceived as a technical instrument aimed at curbing regional political power, but evolved into an arena of political reassertion. The analysis argues that it does not generates a simple replacement of politics by technical power, but rather a reconfiguration of political forms, actors, and responsibilities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
