Anna de Noailles was a great friend of Marcel Proust. The poetess fascinated the greatest intellectuals of her time, and not just during the Belle Époque. And Her memory continued to resonate in cultural consciousness long after her death. Emmanuel Berl, a perceptive observer of the avant-gardes and cousin of the poet Henri Franck – himself captivated by Anna de Noailles – described her in his autobiographical novel "Sylvia" as a Fairy-bird. In this study, we will look at examples of paratexts such as the introduction Anna, la Saffo del ventesimo secolo by Andrea Breda Minello to the "Poesie d’amore" and the homage to Proust by an author who is certainly more avant-garde than Anna de Noailles and her cousin Marthe Bibesco: Jean Cocteau. As we shall also see with Marinetti, it seems very difficult not to become extremely lyrical oneself when talking about Anna de Noailles and the intellectuals she associated with.
