Italy’s inner areas are characterised by a poor offer of services and progressive abandonment processes that have contributed to the demographic crisis. These areas have strategic unused resources, but useful for their revitalisation as well as for the entire national system. For this reason, many of the Area Strategies, defined within the National Strategy for Inner Areas, aim to enhance local agricultural and tourist activities according to an integrated approach. The paper analyses the results of these initiatives through the definition of composite indices whose spatialization offers a key to reading Italy’s inner areas, useful to identify sustainable, replicable strategies.

Abstract
Italy’s inner areas are characterised by a poor offer of services and progressive abandonment processes that have contributed to the demographic crisis. These areas have strategic unused resources, but useful for their revitalisation as well as for the entire national system. For this reason, many of the Area Strategies, defined within the National Strategy for Inner Areas, aim to enhance local agricultural and tourist activities according to an integrated approach. The paper analyses the results of these initiatives through the definition of composite indices whose spatialization offers a key to reading Italy’s inner areas, useful to identify sustainable, replicable strategies.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
