Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary results of an investigation carried out during the Spring of 2021, constantly placing the arbëresh world at the center of a common cultural and intellectual interest which I have always had with Gianni. The focus is on a particular rite linked to the cult of water which, attested in the Arbëresh context, occurs during a special moment of the “sacred time”, that is the night between Holy Saturday – called “the Saturday of Silence”- and Easter Sunday. This exact time, due to the inscrutable mysteries of destiny, also marked the dramatic epilogue of Gianni’s existential story
