This article examines the potential of comparative corpora for the development of foreign language writing skills in the university classroom with Italian-speaking learners of German. Through exposure to comparative corpora, learners can inductively develop prototypical models of text types in the foreign language, which can serve as a point of reference for their own text production. The example of dealing with picture book reviews shows how process, product and reflection orientation can be taken into account in the classroom.

Abstract

This article examines the potential of comparative corpora for the development of foreign language writing skills in the university classroom with Italian-speaking learners of German.
